Are you ready for some football?

One of my favorite activities to do in my free-time is to watch sports. Some of my favorite networks on TV are NBA TV, the NFL Network, and ESPN. So, needless to say, I am ecstatic that Storplace Self Storage of Hickory Hollow and our other 14 locations are closed on Sundays. Our office hours are  Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5:30pm. Our customers still have access to the property via computer controlled gate access when the office is closed. Being off every Sunday is great because I have a full day to watch any sporting event that I would like. The first Sunday in February kicks off with the biggest sporting event in football: The 2014 Super Bowl. So, if you enjoy watching sports like me, mark your calendar for February 2, 2014 to watch the Denver Broncos (13-3) and the Seattle Seahawks (13-3) go head-to-head for the title of Super Bowl Champions. The Denver Broncos are led by Coach John Fox and quarterback Peyton Manning, who is a native of Tennessee. The Seattle Seahawks are led by Coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson. The kick off for the game is at 6:25 (EST) and the halftime show will feature Bruno Mars and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. This year’s Super Bowl is the first to be played outside in an extremely cold environment. The game, which will be a battle between players and Mother Nature, is at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. As usual, you can expect the amazing commercials we have all grown to love over the years. An interesting fact is that the current rate for a 30-second commercial is approximately $4 million dollars!

One exciting event that is taking place on Super Bowl Sunday, is “A Super Bowl to Remember” party for the Make-A-Wish” Foundation at the Wildhorse Saloon on 2nd Ave. in downtown Nashville from 3pm to 11pm. For more information, you can visit their website.  At this event, you can watch the game on Tennessee’s largest indoor video screen, enjoy free appetizers and make a generous donation to “Make the Wish” of many ill children come true. You can also watch the game at many local taverns, bars, or in the warm comfort of your home with family and friends.

Have fun and enjoy the big game!

3 great options for winter time fun for children in Murfreesboro!

Discovery Center in Murfreesboro

One of the great parts of being an employee at StorPlace Self Storage of Veterans Parkway is that it is a company that understands the importance of spending quality time with family.  Our offices are open from 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Saturday.  This allows me time to take my daughter to school in the mornings, to be home to make dinner in the evenings, and allows for “fun time” activities, such as taking my daughter to the many children-friendly places in Murfreesboro.

You don’t have to stay inside all winter.  Did you know that Murfreesboro has several inexpensive ways to entertain your children indoors? Here are just 3 of the fun things you can do during the chilly winter months:

Swim!  Murfreesboro Park and Recreations has two Recreation Centers in Murfreesboro.  The first location, Sports*Com, is located at 2310 Memorial Blvd.  They have a newly renovated 25 yard indoor pool that is open seven days a week.  You can take the whole family to swim for $2.00 per child ages 5-17, 4 and under free, and $3.00 per adult.  The second location is Patterson Park Community Center located at 521 Mercury Blvd.  Their indoor pool features a rec play area where small children can have fun climbing and sliding down the water slide.  They also have a larger water slide great for older children.  Like Sports*Com, it is only $2.00 per child ages 5-17, 4 and under free, and $3.00 per adult.  In addition to this, there is a 3-lane lap area to the pool where the adults can enjoy swimming laps while the children play.  There are also always life guards on duty at both pools to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.  You can get more information at the Murfreesboro Park and Recreations website at http://www.murfreesborotn.gov/Index.aspx?NID=162.

Discover! Murfreesboro has a place called the Discovery Center located at 502 SE Broad Street, which is great for children of all ages. Admission for Discovery Center for Adults and Children is $6.00 each while children under two are free.  This is where children can explore and discover all while having a blast.  The Discovery Center has permanent exhibits as well as traveling visits that are on view for short amount of time.  Currently, the special exhibit is “Curious George: Let’s Get Curious!” and is running from January 18 through May 4, 2014.  This exhibit features buildings and scenery from the actual Curious George book and television series that will be recognizable to children.  They get to explore like Curious George does!  You can find more information at the Discovery Center website at http://explorethedc.org/.

Jump! The third great option guaranteed to not only get out some of that built up energy, but have a great time doing so is to visit BounceU located at 1222 Park Avenue.  Inside BounceU, you will find all sorts of inflatable bounce houses, inflatable basketball, boxing ring, and slides.  They also have programs and camps you can go to as well as children’s birthday party options.  You can get more information at the BounceU website at http://bounceu46.reachlocal.net/party-places-for-kids/tennessee/murfreesboro/.

Using Self-Storage

StorPlace makes renting a storage unit easy.

StorPlace’s team is ready to help with your storage needs!

When storing your valuable items there are many factors to consider, so it is imperative to do research. Choosing the right storage location and finding the self storage property with the right security are the first things to consider.  It’s always good to look at the different properties before you sign your contract; that way you can see what you are paying for and you can compare the features at the different properties .  Another factor to consider when renting a self storage unit is buying the right merchandise to pack your belongings. StorPlace Self Storage has all the packing and moving supplies that you need.  Finally, the last, but most important factor is choosing the right storage unit for your storing needs. Listed below are a few tips for when you need to rent a storage unit from packing tips to security concerns:

The first thing to do in storing is packing your personal goods. Boxes are the easiest and most convenient way to pack. Many people have think that the bigger the box the better, but that is not always the case. When selecting boxes, think about what you are storing and who will be moving it. Small boxes, which are great for heavier items such as books and dishes, can get heavy very quickly.  Larger boxes are great for storing lighter items such as towels, blankets, and comforters.  StorPlace Self Storage offers many specialized boxes like mirror boxes which are great for storing mirrors or paintings. When using boxes properly secure them with tape and filler material like bubble wrap and foam peanuts for extra security and protection for your items.

When storing your personal belongings in self-storage, location is very important to consider.  A secure and conveniently located storage facility is a plus. If you are moving to a new town, it is best to find a storage facility closer to where you will be living instead of one across town. A closer location will allow for easier access to your personal goods.  StorPlace Self-Storage has 16 conveniently located and secure storage facilities in middle Tennessee ready to accommodate all your storage needs.

Once you have packed your belongings, and determined the right storage location for your storage needs, you must select an appropriate storage unit. Storage units have many different sizes and  features. Selecting the right storage unit for your belongings can require some more planning. The storage professionals, such as the ones at StorPlace Self Storage, can provide the insight and help determine the storage unit that will best serve your needs. Some of the questions that the property manager can assist you with are: Do you require a small or large unit? a drive up unit? or  a heated and cooled unit? Your personal belonging are very important, you take great care of them, choosing a storage unit should be no different, take the same care when selecting your self-storage unit.

New Year: New Challenges and Triumphs!

Happy New Year from StorPlace Self Storage

StorPlace Self Storage of Stones River in Murfreesboro Tennessee, kindly referred to as: “Your Neighborhood” storage facility. Welcome to our neighborhood and Happy New Year everyone!

This year, as the holidays rushed in and out and even now as we box or re-box our decorations to store our precious ornaments and keepsakes for another year, we begin to greet the New Year with the eagerness of a child on Christmas morning. Bringing in a New Year always gives a great opportunity to reflect the simple lessons learned from years gone by. We say good-bye to the year passing and the many events that has brought us up to now, and today. Kelly, the store manager of Stones River, said New Years has always been her favorite holiday, “It is a rebirth and a fresh start” she said. “The excitement of the unknown in what this new year will bring… what new road will life place us on… what challenge, what accomplishment, what heart ache or joy will life’s undetermined mystery bring to the road of life.”

It seems the one thing we can always count on in life, is that from day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, and from year to New Year, our life is about to change. No matter who we are or what our individual circumstance and walk of life might be, we know something in our life is about to take a turn and change. Sometimes, the change is great, good and exciting. Sometimes, the change might be a growing experience and one we’d actually rather not have to stretch our muscles and go through. But, go through it we will and hopefully as we do, there will always be people on our life’s road to share with us the joys, tears, sorrows, and smiles, and who will lend a shoulder, while we stretch and grow and change.

“I love my job!” Kelly said.  It is in this self storage management position that she can meet you, the public. People, who every day, come in and share your story of what your life’s road has changed for you. It may be as simple as needing to buy a box or two, it might be that job promotion you have been waiting on and now you are making room for that home office and storing all the clutter from the junk room. She loves hearing your stories! In these tough economic times, there have been several people who tell her they are downsizing and storing their home furnishings while they sell their large home and move to a smaller one.

Sometimes your storage needs may be due to the delight of a new child on the way and you’re clearing a bedroom for a nursery.  Other times, it is in the sadness of a loved one lost, and you are storing their belongings until you feel you can manage and face going through them.  A new job, a new home, or combining households with new love in the air, there are so many stories and people and circumstance. We can always count on change being inevitable in our ever rotating lives!

Sometimes the world can be a cold place when transition hits, so whatever your story, and no matter the road life has put you on, come in and see us at StorPlace of Stones River. Kelly has a shoulder to lend, an ear to listen, an idea to share and a smile to give. Yep, you’re welcome in the StorPlace Self Storage neighborhood anytime!

A Guide for First Time Storage Users

StorPlace Self Storage

StorPlace can help you find the best storage unit for your storage needs.

Is it your first time renting a storage unit?  If so, here are some helpful tips to ensure you select a storage facility that will be best for you! The more research you do, the more likely you are to find a facility that can accommodate all of your needs.

One of the most important things to consider is location. You don’t want to be dragging your belongings up stairs, or have to drive 10 miles just to get one thing in your storage unit.  Once you pick a location, visiting the storage facility before you sign the rental agreement is highly recommended. When looking at properties, make sure they have a gated keypad entry, security cameras, and ease of access to the property. If you don’t like what you see, or feel as if your belongings won’t be well taken care of, you may want to visit another facility.

Another thing to consider is: how long will you be storing your belongings? If you are planning on storing over the warm summer months, you may want to consider a unit that is heated and cooled.  This will help protect the precious items that are sensitive to the warm temperatures. Heated and cooled storage units are definitely helpful in Tennessee during the summer.  If you are only planning on storing for a short period, some items may be fine in a drive-up unit.  A good rule to follow is: if you feel comfortable keeping it in your garage, it will be ok in a standard storage unit.

There are a few other things to consider when choosing a storage facility. These are move-in specials, late fees, and gate hours.  Some facilities have move-in specials that are used to draw the customer in.  As in many other businesses, just because a unit is less expensive doesn’t make it a better fit.  You will also want to check with the storage facility about their policies and procedures when it comes to late fees.  Just like a mortgage or rent payment most storage facilities have a grace period of when the rent is due.  Make sure you carefully read their procedures and acknowledge what happens if you are ever delinquent on your rent.  You will want to check into all of these aspects before choosing a facility to store with. The more research you do, the better you will feel about storing your goods.
