Shake off those Winter Blues!

Beating the Winter Blues

It never fails. In mid-January, after all the holiday adrenaline has worn off, I enter this slump. All I want to do is go to work and then go home and sleep. This is really unusual for me, because I love being outdoors and keeping busy. One of my favorite places to go and look for activities is Ready, Set, Rutherford! This site is perfect not only for people visiting our community, but also for those of us in a rut and looking for a fun new adventure to embark on. As you peruse the pages of this site there are likely things that you didn’t know took place in our neck of the woods.

Just recently, I visited the page looking for something to get out of the house and do on the weekend. I noticed that Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU)  actually has an event area where different activities are held. Last week, I attended the SEBRA National Finals  at Miller Coliseum. What an exciting event! Coming up this weekend is a Truck and Tractor Pull. And boy am I excited!

Not everyone enjoys the same types of activities, and that is what makes Ready, Set, Rutherford so great! You can see events for many different types of people: those with young children, those who love the outdoors, and also those who love the arts! For those of us who just get stuck and don’t know what we want to do next (or those of us who like to have the WHOLE day planned out), they even have sample itineraries that have step-by-step instructions on how to maximize a fun-filled day!

If you ever find yourself without a clue what to do on a cold winter day, check out the Ready, Set, Rutherford and plan away!

Welcome to 2015!

Welcome to 2015

It’s that time of year again when we all start making New Year’s resolutions!  One of the most popular resolutions made each year is losing weight. To be honest, it makes my list every year. Therefore, I decided to find more ways to be active this year. There are actually many different affordable activities to do in the Middle Tennessee area and many different fitness centers to choose from.

One place that I like to go to when looking for fitness and exercise deals is Groupon. Right now there are many deals available such as: barre fitness classes, martial arts lessons, boxing or kick boxing, rock climbing, yoga, dance lessons and so much more.

Murfreesboro also has many different fitness centers. Some of these include Planet Fitness, Gold’s Gym, Olympus Athletic Club, Anytime Fitness and Murfreesboro Athletic Club. My preferred gym is Planet Fitness. One of the best things about this facility is that it is a 100% Judgment Free Zone. It’s an environment where you feel accepted and comfortable going at your own pace without having to worry about others judging you. Planet Fitness is also very affordable. They have two membership types. The first is a $10/month plan which allows you unlimited access to their gym equipment and unlimited fitness training. The second option is the Black Card membership. This membership is $19.99/month and adds unlimited access to all Planet Fitness locations, use of tanning, and unlimited use of massage chairs, hydromassage beds and the total body enhancement machines. I suggest visiting each fitness center to see which will work best for you and your goals.

There are also many other ways to stay active besides joining a gym. Why not do something fun with your whole family like bowling, roller skating, paint ball shooting, or zip lining. There is something available for all ages.

Or if you prefer to exercise in the comfort of your home, Groupon also has many great deals for purchasing exercise equipment and tools to help you reach your goals. Don’t have enough space at home for bulky equipment? Why not clear out that spare bedroom and put it to good use. At StorPlace Self Storage we can find a perfect storage unit to match your needs!

May you succeed at all your resolutions and become a healthy and happier you! The staff at StorPlace Self Storage wishes our friends, family and customers a very Happy New Year!

Tips on Storage

StorPlace has self storage for all the seasonsThere are just some basic tips that most people do not think about when putting their belongings in storage. First, have a game plan! Take a look at the items that you are going to store and determine the approximate size of storage unit you will need. Then, check out the storage facility you would like to use and make sure it has all the features and the storage unit size that you need. You also may want to consider a temperature controlled storage unit if any of your belongings could possibly be affected by extreme temperature changes.

Now let’s take a look at the items that you want to store and decide the smart way to store them. As you box up your belongings, remember to use same size boxes so they can be evenly spaced when stacking in storage, so that they don’t collapse over time. That brings us to how to pack the items in the boxes so that they don’t collapse. ALWAYS pack the boxes full. Boxes will collapse if they are not fully packed with items and filler material. Packing paper that is available at StorPlace Self Storage.

If you are storing any appliances there are extra prepping for storage steps that most of the time are over looked.First, if storing ANY type of food appliance make sure you clean it extremely well. Keep in mind that just because they look clean does not mean that there is not any small food particles left that can attract bugs to your storage. Just in case, you may even want to use a non-toxic bug spray on those appliances. When storing a refrigerator, make sure you unplug it a few hours before you move it. This allows time for the fridge to defrost and drain, because you don’t want you items in storage to get wet not to mention flooding of the unit next to yours. If you are storing a washing machine or dishwasher, make sure you run a drain cycle before you unplug and unhook them from the wall. Also, make sure all the hoses are free of any water. Once you get these larger appliances in the storage unit, prop the doors open so that mold and mildew does not grow inside. Wipe down tools and metal objects with some oil or WD-40 to prevent rusting.

The next item on the list is how to keep dust off of your furniture and mattresses. Most people will use a plastic mattress cover, couch cover or tarp to cover their items in storage. The only problem it that plastic will hold in moisture and heat, which can damage furniture. The plastic coverings are great for moving because you don’t want to get you furniture or mattresses dirty, but they are not so great for protecting items in storage. A good idea is to use mattress or furniture covers for moving, but once the item is in storage, slide the cover down to the floor but leave it under the item so that when you move the items again you can just slide the cover back up and go. This will also apply to any shrink-wrap that you or your movers may be using. Just make sure to remove it when you put it in the storage unit.

Staging a Home?

Staging a home and self storageWhen you are ready to sell your house most of the time you will be told to “stage” the house.  What does this really mean? Well staging your house can mean a number of different things from removing big pieces of furniture to cleaning out the garage.  Both of these tasks can be stressful, but having a place to store everything could help relieve some of that stress.  That is where StorPlace Self Storage comes in to save the day.

If your realtor tells you that you need to take some of the bigger pieces of furniture out of your house to help stage it, well finding a place to put the furniture can be tough.  You can’t put it in the garage because that needs to be cleaned out too. This is one of the many reasons why there are storage units. There are many different sizes of storage units that can fit almost any need.  Storing can vary from just a few boxes to an entire house full of things.  If it is just a few items than maybe a smaller unit will do, such as a 5×5 or 5×10.  Or, let’s say that you needed to store the contents of an entire house.  There are bigger units available for that need as well, such as 10×25 or 10×30.  Also, there are a variety of storage sizes in-between the 5×5 and the 10×30 will accommodate most needs if it is a little bit of both furniture or extra clutter.

Reducing the clutter and removing big furniture can help make the house feel bigger.  This is a major selling point for potential buyers.  This is another reason that storage is a big need for sellers everywhere.  If you are in the Middle Tennessee area or even in Bowling Green KY, StorPlace Self Storage is the place for you to store your belongings where they can be safe and secured.
