Three Key Factors When Choosing Self-Storage

StorPlace of Hickory Hollow

When storing there are many factors to consider so do your research:

  • Choosing the right packing supplies is a very important starting with boxes and tape.
  • Picking the right location for storing your goods is very important.
  • Deciding on the right storage unit for your storing need is the most important thing to consider.

The self-storage tips below will help you make an informed decision on all your self-storage needs.

Packing for Self-Storage

First thing in storing is packing your personal goods. Boxes are the easiest and most convenient way to pack. Many people have the notion that the bigger the box the better, not always the case. When selecting boxes think about what you are storing and who will be moving it. Small boxes which are great for heavier items, such as books and dishes, can get heavy very quickly. Larger boxes are great for storing lighter items such as towels, blankets, and comforters.  StorPlace Self Storage offers many special-sized boxes, like mirror boxes, which are great for storing mirrors or paintings. Remember when using boxes to properly secure them with tape and filler material like bubble wrap and foam peanuts for extra security.

Storage Location

When storing your personal belongings in self-storage, an important consideration is location.  A secure and conveniently located storage facility is always a plus. For example if you are moving to a new town, it is best to find a storage facility closer to where you will be moving instead of one across town. The more convenient a location is to where you live the easier it is to access your personal goods. StorPlace Self Storage has 14 conveniently located and secure storage facilities in middle Tennessee ready to accommodate all your storage needs. Location is a convenience when dealing with self-storage.

Selecting a Storage Unit Size

Once you have packed your belongings and determined the right self-storage location for your storing needs, you must select an appropriate storage unit. Storage units come in many different sizes and with many different features. Selecting the right storage unit for your belongings sometime requires a little extra insight. The storage professionals at StorPlace Self Storage can provide the insight and help to determine the storage unit size  that will best serve you. Do you require a small or large unit or a drive up unit, or maybe a heated and cooled unit? These are just a few of the questions that a property manager can assist you with.  Your personal belongings are very important and you want to take great care of them. Choosing a storage unit should be no different; take the same care when selecting your self-storage unit.

There is no unimportant part to self-storage. Starting with getting the proper packing supplies and materials necessary for the job ahead. Another very important part of storing with self-storage is find a location that suits you best, a location down the road is better than across town. Finally, select the right unit for your storage needs, if you don’t know ask! A storage professional will help you determine what type of unit would benefit you the most and if that unit will be enough or not enough for your storing needs.

Organizing and Decluttering

Decluttering and Organization Tips

Spring is around the corner: flowers are blooming, bunny rabbits are hoping and the house is full of clutter. You are feeling overwhelmed, stressed and know it’s time to get rid of all of that clutter. Take control of your life and reclaim your space.

It’s important to have a clear goal in mind of what you would like your home to look like after getting rid of all the clutter. Your vision should give you a clear ideal how to reclaim the space in your home. Having a project goal for your organizing your house or garage helps you to decide what to keep or throw out in your decluttering process.

First, declutter the area or room that is causing you the most stress.  Start small, but, also set a fixed time and day to have the project completed. Have four bags; label them as “Keep” “Throw out” “Donate” and “Not sure”.  Use a fast sorting approach, ask yourself a few questions to help determine what to toss or keep:

1.    When was the last time I used or worn the item?
2.    Will I use or wear it again?
3.    Is it worthy holding on to it or is it taking up space?

We have many products and items in our house which we rarely us. This is a good time to decide options for storing these items. Some people decided to rent a storage unit. StorPlace Self Storage  offers a wide variety of storage options, some have heated and cooled units for storing pictures, antiques or oil paintings. Sizes of the storage units can range from 5×5, 5×10, and 10×10 to 10×30. The size of the storage unit you choose will depend on how much clutter you need to get out of your house or garage.

An important part of clutter control is having a place for everything and keeping your stuff in its place. Organizing your home will make your life less stressful and lessen feeling overwhelmed when you walk in the door. Plus, you get more time to enjoy the Spring!!!!

Finding the Right Food for Your Pet

Choosing the Right Pet FoodDo you ever walk into a pet store and become overwhelmed with all of the different pet food you can choose from? Of course you want the best for your furry friend, but how do you know which pet food to buy? Just like people, our pets have different needs. Some can do just fine on about any food, but other pets may have special needs, such as sensitive stomachs, allergies, or even conditions such as dry skin. Always make sure you do your research on your specific breed of cat or dog before shopping for their food.

Questions to Ask Before Buying Pet Food

Here are some questions that you might want to ask yourself before making your purchase. Is my cat or dog going to be mostly indoors, or will they spend a majority of their time outdoors? Do they have dry skin or any allergies that you know of? Is he/she a breed that has special needs? Some examples are Sharpeis, Bulldogs, and Pugs. What size is your pet? Is he/she very active or likes to lounge around a lot? Is he/she long-haired or short-haired? These are the most important things to focus on when finding the right food for your pet. If your pet has a condition such as diabetes or even if they’re very overweight, you might just need to go for a special prescription diet through your veterinarian, which will narrow down your results significantly.

Which Type of Pet Food Do You Need?

So, how about some answers to those questions? The first question is more important for cats, but can be important for dogs too. If your cat or dog is mostly indoors, you should find something with less fat assuming that your pet will be less active than a primarily outdoor cat or dog. If they have dry skin you should look for food primarily made from fish. If allergies are an issue, look for food with an uncommon protein such as duck or even bison. If you have a small dog, always buy food made for small dogs. This is important because smaller dogs need less protein, and also need smaller bites of food to avoid choking on large pieces. There are also special foods for larger dogs which have primarily larger kibble and more protein. If your pet is very active, look into foods with a higher fat content and once again more protein so that your pet can stay active. Dogs and cats that love to just lounge around need food with less fat, so they don’t become overweight which is a very common issue in pets, especially cats. If you have a pet with long fur, look for food with more omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids; there are even some foods made especially for long-haired pets to keep their coat shiny and manageable.

While those are the main things to look for before buying food, every pet is very unique, so once again, do your research before making your purchase. Sometimes, it will take a few tries before finding the perfect food, and your pets’ needs can also change. Finding the best food for your pet is very important for their health, and their overall happiness. So, if you want a happy pet, follow these guidelines and your furry friend will thank you!

Nashville’s New Outdoor Venue: Ascend Amphitheater

Ascend AmphitheaterRiverfront Park is located along the Cumberland River in the heart of Nashville. It has always been a favorite summer hangout spot to enjoy the Nashville skyline and the beautiful downtown lights reflecting from the water. In April of 2015, Ascend Federal Credit Union unveiled a new outdoor venue housed in Riverfront Park to give the area even more of a Music City feel. The Ascend Amphitheater is an outdoor entertainment venue housed within the 12-acre park where it plays host to various forms of entertainment including concerts and comedy shows. The amphitheater itself can accommodate up to 6,800 people (2300 seated and 4500 on the lawn), but on non-event days, the park is open for Nashvillians and visitors to enjoy the trails, dog park, and gardens.

The first concert that opened the venue took place on July 30, 2015 by Eric Church, followed by Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire. Live Nation operates the venue and has signed a 10-year contract with Ascend Federal Credit Union. During the summer, the amphitheater is also home to the Nashville Symphony’s summer concerts.

Future concerts for 2016, include Bryan Adams, Alabama Shakes, Styx with the Nashville Symphony, Jimmy Buffett, The Music of John Williams with the Nashville Symphony, Modest Mouse, Journey, and Ray Lamontagne. What I’ve Learned About Basset Hounds

Basset HoundsIn March 2015, Beau came into our lives and home. Beau was born in January 2015, so he was approximately 10 weeks old, weighing in it at a roaring 5 pounds when he came home with us. At first we were convinced we were going to have to build ramps to all the entrances of our home. He couldn’t get up or down any of the stairs. The good news, he’s outgrown that problem. With very short legs and a little round torso, most of the time when he walked, he stepped on his ears.

We very quickly learned, the basset rules of possession. If he likes it, its his. If he chews it into hundreds of little pieces, all the pieces are his. If he gets tired of it, it’s yours. If he wants it back, its his. And he really doesn’t forget these rules. He remembers.

Basset hounds apparently grow very quickly. After a very short period, he had gone from the adorable 5 pound pup my husband brought home, to a 60 pound log dog. His torso is very large, and round. Legs are still short, but he is able to walk up and down the stairs now. And somehow he has grown significantly, but his ears have not. Fortunately he doesn’t step on them anymore.

Basset’s love to play.  He has no problem stealing your stuff then luring you into playing keep away. He has a large collection of toys. He will gladly toss one up in your lap; he’s not shy about letting you know its Beau’s play time.

Welcome to StorPlace Self Storage of Stones River

StorPlace of Stones River in MurfreesboroStorPlace Self Storage of Stones River in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, kindly referred to as: Your Neighborhood storage facility. Welcome to our neighborhood and Happy New Year everyone!

This year as the holidays rushed in and out and even now as we take down and box or re-box our decorations to store our precious ornaments and keepsakes for another year; we begin to greet the New Year with the eagerness of a child on Christmas morning.

Bringing in a New Year always gives great opportunity to reflect the simple lessons learned from years gone by. We say good-bye to the year passing and the many events that has brought us up to now, and today…

Kelly, the store manager of StorPlace Self Storage at Stones River, said New Years has always been her favorite holiday. “It is a rebirth and a fresh start,” she said. “The excitement of the unknown in what this new year will bring, what new road will life place us on, what challenge, what accomplishment, what heart ache or joy will life’s undetermined mystery bring to the road of life.”

It seems the one thing we can always count on in life, is that from day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month and from year to New Year, our life is always about to change.

No matter who we are or what our individual circumstance and walk of life might be, we know something in our life is about to take a turn and change. Sometimes the change is great and good and exciting, and sometimes; well, the change might be a growing experience and one we’d actually rather not have to stretch our muscles and go through. But go through we will, and hopefully as we do, there will always be people on our life’s road to share with us the joys, tears, sorrows and smiles, lending a shoulder if need be while we stretch and grow and change.

“I love my job!” Kelly said.  It is in this self-storage management position that she can meet you, the public. People who every day, come in and share your story, of what your life’s road has changed for you. It may be as simple as needing to buy a box or two, it might be that job promotion you’d been waiting on and now you are making room for a home office and storing all the clutter from the junk room. She loves hearing your stories!

Kelly has heard many life changing stories during her time at StorPlace Self Storage. When times are tough and money is tight, several people have told her they are downsizing and storing their home furnishings while they sell their large home and move to a smaller one.Sometimes a storage need may be due to the delight of a new child on the way and a bedroom gets to change from guest room to nursery.  Other times, it is in the sadness of a loved one lost and their belongings need to be stored until they can be faced and gone through. A new job, a new home, or combining households with new love in the air. So many stories and people and circumstances. Yes, we can count on change being inevitable in our ever rotating lives!

Sometimes the world can be a cold place when transition hits, so whatever your story… and no matter the road life has put you on. Come in and see us at StorPlace of Stones River. Kelly has a shoulder to lend, an ear to listen, an idea to share and a smile to give. You’re welcome in the StorPlace Self Storage neighborhood anytime!

Organizing Tips to Start off the New Year

Starting January with Organization ProjectsHappy New Year everyone! We hope you had a warm and safe holiday season! Now that it’s January, it’s a great time to start looking at some organizational ideas. We might have some holiday décor or things we do not have any room for, but just can’t let go of. Here at StorPlace Self Storage, we enjoy being organized. Let’s take a look at an effective way to get organized this first quarter. We’ll also look at some events that are going to be taking place in January.

Organization Tips

Get Organized with Storage Bins

I love decorating for the holidays; I usually shop the “after holiday sales” and accrue more décor and such from time-to-time. Want to know a fantastic way to organize your seasonal décor? First, I would suggest purchasing quite a few sturdy totes. Then I would grab a sharpie and all the decorations that need to be stored. Next, I would suggest packing all of your totes by holiday or however you would like. Go ahead and write on the outside of the tote facing you, which holiday is being stored within. Lastly, organize all of your totes in order as the holidays occur. You could also do this with other belongings. There could be a small section dedicated to photographs, crafts or even scrapbooking supplies. This would be a great idea to have access to and not have to dig through the totes or containers. If storing totes and other kinds of bins, purchasing a storage shelf organizer would be a great idea. A shelf organizer would reduce any back pains from having to move things to get to that one tote or bin you need.

Things to Do

With the holidays over, there’s still some fun to get into this month! Here’s some fun things that will be happening nearby…

Southern Invitational Indoor Tractor and Truck Pull

For those interested in motorsports, the Southern Invitational Indoor Truck and Tractor Pull will take place at the Miller Coliseum in Murfreesboro, on Friday January 29th and Saturday January 30th.  This would be a great event to take the whole family to for an action packed time!

At StorPlace Self Storage of Barfield, we hope you have a bright and beautiful year ahead!
