Springtime in Bowling Green!

StorPlace of Bowling Green, KYThe rain comes down and the green comes up! Everywhere! The weather is perfect and I’m enjoying every minute of spring’s arrival in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I called friends in Denver, Colorado recently and they were suffering through a blizzard, so it’s GREAT to be in Kentucky right now.

With the new season, longer days and more sunshine – it’s also time for change. For some, that means time to sell their home. Spring is the time folks are selling and buying houses and when they do, they come in looking for packing materials and storage solutions. By asking questions, you find out not only do they need a box or tape, but they also need advice on which storage solution best fits their needs. For all household items, our experienced and knowledgeable staff is glad to help.

Our storage solutions can first help you stage your home for prospective buyers. This helps enable people to sell their house within days. But now they haven’t found a new home yet, so they need a place for the rest of their belongings, which is where we will continue to build that relationship with our customers. In addition to home sales, we look forward to Western Kentucky University students coming to town and storing with us as well.

Of course, with the rain and longer days of sunshine –also comes the weeds. These weeds grow four inches over night. Luckily we are getting a new landscaper, but in the meantime, we are weed pulling, grass mowing, and anything else we need to do to keep the property looking nice. Spring time means clean time! Way up north here in BG KY, we have a great team. It takes TEAMWORK to make a store work and that’s why we believe in the following mantra:

T- Task Oriented
A-Attention to Detail

Stop by StorPlace today to let our team help you get the most out of your spring and summer season!

Its More than just Renting Storage Units

StorPlace Self Storage in Bowling Green KentuckyWhat makes working at StorPlace Self Storage meaningful? Well that is a great question! I’d have to answer: if someone would have told me 5 years ago, that I am going to be leaving Denver Colorado , retiring early from the state government,  move back home to Bowling Green, Kentucky and work at a storage facility,  I would have answered.. Dude?! Are you crazy?!

But here I am and there you have it! I love it. Working with StorPlace Self Storage has provided me insight on how efficient businesses are operated.  Running a storage facility is unique, as it has different stories and  dramas almost daily. The day-to-day operation is perfected to make all interactions streamlined.

Folks come into our store in Bowling Green as if we have a sign that says “no matter the question we have an answer”.  Mind blowing sometimes! I must admit before working at Store Place Self Storage, I never gave storage facilities a second thought. If they looked nice and were cheap enough I used them. I never realized the wealth of knowledge you could find at a self storage facility!

I had a lady come in a few days before Halloween, she started pulling bubble wrap off the shelf. I approached her and asked what was she wrapping? She said I’m not wrapping anything, but here is my dilemma. She showed me a picture on her phone of a centerpiece on a table, which was a “stuffed looking man” on the table, with his “guts” exposed. The guts were aluminum pans filled with sausage dogs and beans (looked like his intestines,) and beets in a pan, to look like his heart. It was very creative!  This lady however was trying to figure out how to stuff the arms of the shirt.  We decided on how to best approach this was bubble wrap and rolls of paper towel & toilet paper. She was so happy with the idea, that she gave me a hug before she left!

Yesterday, we had another lady come in and said, “I need to make 8 pairs of angel wings, how do I draw them and how many boxes do I need?” We didn’t bat an eye; we drew her out an angel wing pattern and told her how to cut them out! Sold her several small mirror boxes and suggested aluminum foil for flare!  She is sending us pictures once she has them all done!

It’s the little things that make this job fun, its making someone’s day with a simple suggestion! It’s caring enough to listen, and then doing your best to make life easier for them.

There is so much more to StorPlace Self Storage then renting out units! And that’s why I love what I do! Plus! It’s fun.

The StorPlace Self Storage Difference

StorPlace of Bowling Green, KYWhat does StorPlace Self Storage have to offer?  Why do people choose us over or competitors in the area?  This is the million dollar questions that directs our daily activity. In the short time I have been with StorPlace Self Storage, I have seen many people come into our lobby and ask the typical “storage” questions, “How much?”; “Do I have to sign a contract?”; and “How safe will my belongings be?”  All of which, can be easily answered.

So what is it the makes StorPlace Self Storage stand apart from all the other guys? I have a firm belief that when we put ourselves in the shoes of our renters, we are better equipped to not only show them why we are better, but can also make that connection and friendship that leads to continual business.  Each person I encounter, I imagine what I would need to know in-order to feel comfortable storing my belongings.

I had the opportunity the talk to a customer that was moving from out-of-state, to Bowling Green, Kentucky. She was nervous about the move itself. The moving company she hired was not able to give her a firm date of the move, due to being so far away from Bowling Green.  As she was telling me the story, I could tell that this was a move out of necessity, and that she wasn’t sure what to expect. I got some more information and found out that her daughter lived in the area. She was going to be staying with her, while looking for a house that she could settle in. I took upon myself to get a list of realtors and some information that she would find useful to the Bowling Green area. When she made it in to StorPlace Self Storage, I had a “welcome kit” already put together. After being with us for a few weeks, she came into the store to purchase some boxes. She told me that she saw some of the big box store fronts in town selling boxes, but she recalled me telling her about saving 10% on boxes at StorPlace Self Storage. This left no doubt in her mind that she was going to get her boxes from us. I now see the customer in our facility at least once every two weeks, and she is always updating me on how the home search is going.

This is just one example of how we are different from the other guys. Not only have we made a happy customer, I have made a friend that I look forward to getting updates on every few weeks. I know that she will move out at some point, but when she needs storage in the future, there is no question that she will look for a StorPlace Self-Storage!

Signs of Spring at StorPlace of Greenwood

College Student StorageRight down the street from StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood is Western Kentucky University (WKU).

Along with signs of spring flowers and returning birds of the season, students and parents have emerged from their winter sleep. Well, that may be a bit too poetic! Actually, the semester at hand is nearing its close and students will need to store their things for the summer. In the storage industry, it is a known fact that parents of students don’t want to take their kids’ things home with them just to return the same stuff in the fall. So, storage becomes a very important part of the spring ritual.

Last year, StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood expanded to include a sister facility that is located directly behind the local Mall. Along with our home location on Campbell Lane, both facilities are being prepped in expectation for the student rush. In fact, it has already begun. One parent, who rented a space for her daughter last year, has already called to reserve a unit. Since she does not need the unit until the beginning of May, we can’t reserve a unit yet.  However, we have put her name on the top of the Intent to Reserve list and will take her deposit at the end of April. It is still early, but as in the case of ‘Mrs. L’, some parents are right on task. The desire not to haul their kids’ stuff around gets many parents extra motivated!

Most students rent a 5×5 unit which is basically the size of a broom closet. It is large enough to hold the quintessential dorm refrigerator, portable television, and a few plastic storage tubs. For those students storing a mattresses and box springs, a 5×10 unit is in order. This unit is a walk-in closet size, and can hold most dorm items up to a large room of furniture. Both of these units have nine-foot tall ceiling heights for stacking. Of course, other students come in with more items and need a larger unit.

At the end of the semester, many local apartment complexes that cater to students end their leases and essentially force students to move out. Most want to and plan to go home for the summer, while others move out reluctantly. Regardless, with up to a one-bedroom apartment worth of furniture, many will need a 10×10 unit. That extra space comes in handy when couches, chairs, dinette sets, and other student furniture needs to be stored.

At StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood, we are ready to serve the student population with their summer storage needs. Many return here every year during their undergraduate days.  In just a short while, we expect many ‘Mrs. L’s’ to come on by.

‘Stuff’ at StorPlace of Greenwood

Stuff the Bus

At one time or another, most folks who place belongings in storage refer to their things as ‘stuff.’ This doesn’t mean the items don’t have personal value. It is just that the need to store is usually a bit overwhelming and most people see their things more as ‘stuff’.Even fine pieces of furniture can be downgraded to ‘stuff’ at stressful times that includes moving and storage.  Once back at home, items presumably return to their given names: the comfy couch, grandma’s end table, and the like. But on occasion, ‘stuff’ adequately describes everything in storage from beginning to end.

Every summer in Bowling Green, (Kentucky!) there is an event called “Stuff the Bus”. Sponsored by SAM 100.7 radio, locals are encouraged to donate supplies for children in need for the coming school year. For one weekend, Tony Rose, a popular on-air personality, lives on the bus and does live remotes for the station. Along with area school mascots, cheerleaders, local politicians and others, listeners are reminded to donate. This year for the first time, StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood was asked to participate.

In late spring, StorPlace Self Storage was approached by folks from the Kentucky Savings Group, one of the organizations putting together ‘Stuff the Bus.’ It seems that donations of school supplies had already come in and were piling up in garages across town. They thought it would be great if they could consolidate the donations under one roof. Because StorPlace Self Storage is involved with the community, a 10×10 storage unit was provided to the Kentucky Savings Group at no charge. Immediately, carloads of pencils, notebooks, backpacks and other supplies were ferried in to be stored. From May to July additional donations were brought over, many in the back of a brightly detailed SAM 100.7 pickup truck.

On the weekend of July 25, the actual school bus was parked across the street, just down the road from StorPlace Self Storage of Greenwood. Tony Rose was in place, personalities waved at passing cars, and the spot was jumping. Items that were in the storage unit were brought over to help fill the bus. We have been told that the target goal for donations has been met. Just in time for the brand new school year that begins this week!

When we look up an account on the StorPlace Self Storage computers, we can type in a name, the unit number, or other information. This summer, when we typed in ‘stuff’, up came the ‘Stuff the Bus’ unit. ‘Stuff’ really did describe the unit contents this time out, and we are pleased to have been a part of a great cause.

Back into the Swing, With a Routine

Store Fall Sports Equipment at StorPlace Self Storage

It is that time of the year once again! With students back in class and fall sports in full swing, this is a critical time to create healthy schedules. Children learn better and even desire to have routines for their daily demands. Cleaning out summer time clutter can help create a neat and clean environment as we watch the beautiful Middle Tennessee trees change color. Whether you need to store your pool floats or this season’s sport equipment, StorPlace Self Storage has your answer to a clutter free home.

After a long summer, children going back to school should be an enjoyable time for parents. However, parents are juggling work, hauling kids to extra-curricular activities and lessons, and working on overload to keep order in the home. By using self-storage, you can significantly reduce your stress level. Children on sport teams come along with extra balls, equipment and more than likely dirtier at the end of their practice or game day. Instead of bringing the extra stuff home, stopping by your storage unit to drop off the sports equipment can help with preventing clutter building up at your home.  StorPlace Self Storage has many convenient locations in the Middle Tennessee and Bowling Green, KY areas to help serve you. By making an after practice routine of swinging by StorPlace Self Storage to store fall sports equipment, busy families can enjoy their time together once they are home for the evening.

Another project to work on during the fall is cleaning and organizing the garage. No need to make your automobile suffer from not enough storage space at your home! Park your ride inside your garage this winter because StorPlace Self Storage has that extra space you can’t seem to find at home. Many people fill up their garages with seasonal items, yard maintenance tools and other extra belongings that do not seem to have a spot inside the house. By storing them at StorPlace Self Storage, you can now have the lavish feeling of warming your automobile inside the garage without stepping into that brisk winter air that is on the way.  Stop by your neighborhood StorPlace Self Storage to speak with our storage experts on how to reduce stress and store smart.

Lamp Boxes and Golf Bags

StorPlace has boxes to fit all things from golf bags to lamps

StorPlace of Bowling Green is now in the golf bag shipping business! Well, not really. It just seems that way. Toward the beginning of the summer, a gentleman came in and looked at the boxes in our retail display. He decided that our lamp base box was the perfect size for shipping golf bags. As it turns out, he needed eight of them. Lucky for him, StorPlace Self Storage has a ‘buy three, get one free’ special on most box sizes. Of course, we couldn’t let him leave without asking how he had acquired so many golf bags. He said that not only does he play golf, but he keeps an eye out for great used golf equipment. This led him to the basement of an acquaintance. The basement was full of all kinds of golf clubs, bags, and accessories. After talking it over, our customer, let’s call him “Mr. Golf”, agreed he would get into the eBay golf business and bought out the contents of that basement. In a short while, his eBay business was up and running and he needed to ship golf bags out to his customers.

At StorPlace of Bowling Green, we normally stock the most common size shipping boxes. However, up to the point “Mr. Golf” came in the store, we usually didn’t have more than ten lamp base boxes to sell. Since he bought all of that style, we needed to order more but how many should we get? The best person to ask was “Mr. Golf”. He said he had, at that time, about 30 bags advertised on his eBay site, and all with active bids. So, we put in an order for 30 lamp base boxes. He said he would be back to buy them and he has proven true to his word. He is our best recent retail customer.

Strangely enough, on a day not too long ago, we thought that “Mr. Golf” had a box buying competitor.  A woman came into the store and asked to buy four lamp base boxes. During the conversation over the sale, she said the boxes were for shipping golf bags. We couldn’t let that one go by, so we told her about “Mr.Golf” and his eBay business. She told us that she is his girlfriend and was sent on a box buying errand!

Come to think of it, I don’t believe we have ever sold a lamp base box for customer to actually pack a lamp. For example: a decorator needed a few of the larger boxes to transport tall fluted glass flower vases or another customer planned to store a croquet set. Regardless, we are glad to offer the boxes to folks who need them. And did I mention that we just ordered sixty additional lamp base boxes for a certain eBay businessman?

What to Look For When Comparing Storage Facilities

Computerized Gate Access at StorPlace Self Storage

Every StorPlace Self Storage faciliy has computerized gate access.

When searching for a storage facility there are a few key things that you should look for during your search: location, availability, security, competitive pricing, cleanliness, and customer service.

Location is a major factor in choosing a facility.  The facility that is the closest to your home is the one you are more likely to choose.  StorPlace Self Storage has 16 facilities in and around middle Tennessee as well as Bowling Green, KY.  There are many different storage facilities in the area to choose from, but don’t base our choice only on the location.

Availability of storage units is another big factor when it comes to choosing a facility.  Not all storage facilities have the same number and size of units available at a certain time.  Storage unit availability varies from location to location.  A good way to check availability is to call the facility you are thinking about storing at or you can go to the website to check to see if the storage unit size that you need is available. At StorPlace of Hendersonville, you can check availability of certain size storage units on our website.

Security is a feature that all potential customers should focus their attention on.  Most places will have a couple of cameras and a gate. At StorPlace Self Storage, we offer multiple security options.  We have surveillance cameras that record 24 hours a day, a fence that is surrounding the entire facility, gated access, and high security lock for the units.

Pricing is probably the most important thing that people think about when choosing a storage facility.  Competitive pricing is available at just about every storage facility. The thing to look for is the most “bang for your buck”.  This can be done by comparing multiple facilities prices along with any specials or coupons you can find.  Typically, a heated and cooled space is going to cost more money than your standard outdoor garage style units.  This may not be true in all cases though.  Pricing also depends on availability of the units.

The Cleanliness of the storage facility is probably the most important factor for me.  You should always ask for a tour of the property and ask to be shown the unit you are thinking about renting before committing to the rental.  This way you can check out the property for yourself and make sure you are getting a clean unit.  Also, a good question to ask is if the facility has an exterminator that comes and sprays the property for bugs.

Good customer service is important for everyone. At StorPlace Self Storage, we pride ourselves on our great customer service.  We try to help the customer in any way possible.  If you have any additional questions you can call any of our 16 locations to get more information.
