How to Choose the Best Storage Facility

StorPlace Self Storage

StorPlace can help you find the best storage unit for your storage needs.

When storing there are many factors to consider, so do your research. The number one  factor when storing is choosing the right storage unit for your storing needs. Once you have decided what type of storage unit you will need, it is very important to pick the right storage location for you. Lastly, it is important to have the correct packing supplies for your belongings starting with boxes and tape. Hopefully, this guide will help you make an informed decision for all your self-storage needs.

First thing to do when storing is packing your personal goods. Boxes are the easiest and most convenient way to pack. Many people think that the bigger the box the better, but that is not always the case. When selecting boxes think about what you are storing and who will be moving it. Small boxes are great for heavier items, such as books and dishes as these type items can get heavy very quickly. Larger boxes are great for storing lighter items such as towels, blankets, and comforters.  Also, many storage companies, such as StorPlace Self Storage, offer specialized boxes like mirror boxes, which are great for storing mirrors or paintings. Remember when storing items in boxes to properly secure them with tape and filler material like bubble wrap and foam peanuts.

When storing your personal belongings in self-storage, the location of the storage facility is important to consider.  A secure and conveniently located storage facility is always a plus. If you are moving to a new town, it is better to find a storage facility closer to where you will be moving to instead of one across town. It is more convenient to access your personal goods at a storage facility that is close to you.  StorPlace Self Storage has 16 conveniently located and secure storage facilities in middle Tennessee ready to accommodate all your storage needs.

Once you have packed your belongings and determined the right self-storage location for your storing needs, you must select an appropriate storage unit. Storage units come in many different sizes, and with many different features. Storage professionals, such as the ones at StorPlace Self Storage, can help determine the storage unit which will best serve your needs. Do you require a small or large unit? A drive up unit? A heated and cooled unit? These are just a few of the questions that a property manager can assist you with.  Your personal belonging are very important, you take great care of them, choosing a storage unit should be no different. Take the same care when selecting your self-storage unit.

There is no unimportant part of self storage. Start with the necessary packing supplies, such as boxes and tape, for the storing or moving job ahead. Another very important part of storing with self-storage is finding a location that suits you best; a location down the road is better than across town. Lastly, select the right unit for your storage needs, if you don’t know, ask. A storage professional will help you determine what type of unit would benefit you the most and if that unit will be enough or not enough for your storing needs.

The Transition of Life

Happy Graduation!

Spring has come and gone for those of us in Middle Tennessee, now we can start to think of summer. The long HOT days of summer. It is also the time to start deciding what to do with those items that we found during spring cleaning. These are items that we did not realize we still had and  we are just are not ready to part with. There are many different transitional time in life that could require renting a self storage unit such as graduating from college, getting married or divorced, moving children out to their own homes or transitioning an older family member to an assisted living facility.

For parents with children who are graduating from high school or college (whew, you made it!), and are starting a life on their own, what to do with the things that they leave behind? As parents of these young adults, we know not to get rid of that bedroom set just in case. But, if you are the parents of children who have not yet graduated (hang in there), but are still in living in a college dorm or apartment and you will need somewhere to store their belongings until school starts again.

Don’t worry, StorPlace Self Storage of Hickory Hollow (Antioch, TN.) and Murfreesboro Rd. (Nashville, TN.) have the storage solution to fit any of your storage needs. Every StorPlace Self Storage location has a large selection of heated and cooled storage spaces available. Did you know that the heated and cooled storage spaces get no warmer than eighty degrees during those dog days of summer and no colder than sixty degrees in those cold days of winter? These cooled storage units are the perfect place to store the student’s electronics, books, documents and any higher-end furniture. The heated storage units would be a great place to store clothing, kitchen items and furniture.

StorPlace Self Storage has over sixteen locations in the Nashville, Murfreesboro and Bowling Green, Kentucky area.  StorPlace of Hickory Hollow, located at 5251 Mt. View Rd., directly across from Hickory Hollow Mall has numerous sizes of storage spaces available which are perfect to hold those items from the dorm room for the single student or that room of  children’s furniture which you want to hold onto. Parents of new graduates, StorPlace of Hickory Hollow and Murfreesboro Rd. has a variety of large units sizes that are just right for storing those items you found on sale and are just waiting for the time you can transform that now spare room into whatever room you may want. When the time is right, give the people at StorPlace Self Storage a call and speak with one of their knowledgeable and friendly management team.

Security and Safety

Computerized Gate Access at StorPlace Self Storage

Every StorPlace Self Storage facility has computerized gate access.

Have you ever wondered how safe and secure your belongings are?  Much like the old adage “you get what you pay for” Self storage facilities come in all shapes with different amenities. Each storage facility offers some features to consider, but StorPlace Self Storage offers that little extra.

Self storage security should include cylinder locks, digital camera systems, gated access, barbed wire fence, and daily walk-through of the properties by company employees.StorPlace Self Storage’s high security cylinder locks are made of the hardest steel with 21 brass pins that allows not only thousands of different key changes, but anti-pick punch resistant mechanisms.  Three high security round keys come with every tenants lock, which are difficult to copy except at a qualified locksmith shop.  The cylinder locks can be a great deterrent to someone with ill-gotten intentions.

Digital site surveillance is top of the line at StorPlace Self Storage. We have cameras that record each time motion that is detected.  Don’t scratch your nose because “Big Brother” can capture you on hidden camera! This remarkably clear footage is one of the best surveillance systems in the storage industry!

Along with the digital system, StorPlace Self Storage 16 locations are surrounded by 8 foot chain linked and wrought iron fences topped with barbed wire. The gated properties are accessed by individual assigned security pass codes. Gate passage is then recorded with date stamping, customers name and time. Each day, our employees walk the property and verify the safety and security of each customers’ storage door and lock.  Fences and lighting are also monitored to assure proper facility up-keep as well as security.

Other safety and security measures to consider when choosing a storage facility would be cleanliness and pest control.  With the help of Belle Meade Exterminators, StorPlace Self Storage has monthly service to prevent problems with rodents and bugs. Our well-trained employees sweep, mop and maintain the grounds and buildings to keep them clean.

Stop by anytime at one of our 16 convenient locations for a site tour to see for yourself that  you really do “get what you pay for” and you also “get your money’s worth” too!   StorPlace Self Storage …your neighborhood storage facility!

Spring Cleaning at StorPlace Self Storage

Spring Time at StorPlace Self Storage

Spring has sprung!

The job of keeping a storage facility in tip-top shape is never ending.  At StorPlace Self Storage,  we take cleanliness VERY seriously.  First impressions can make a difference when you are choosing a self storage facility. Cleanliness can often be the facility’s best-selling point.  Customers want to be assured that their prized possessions are in a safe and clean environment.

StorPlace Self Storage performs audits at each of our facilities once a quarter to insure that all of our properties measure up and exceed standards.  There are over 100 items on each audit and a majority of these include aspects of cleanliness and security.  We keep our standards VERY high at StorPlace Self Storage to ensure that you, our customer, come back to us time and again.  Upholding these cleanliness standards does bring us a lot of repeat business.

So what exactly do we do to earn your business? On a daily basis you can find the manager, assistant manager or both cleaning the property.  What does cleaning the property entail? First and foremost, we make sure there is no trash or debris on the property. We do a thorough check of each and every hallway.  We sweep leaves and any trash out to ensure each hallway is clean.  We also look at each door to be sure it looks its best.  Even during the slower winter months, StorPlace Self Storage employees are working hard to keep our facilities clean so that during our busy season (generally Spring/Summer) you see us at our best.

The grounds crew at StorPlace Self Storage is first rate. They are here a couple of times each month to make sure EVERY blade of grass is cut to just the right height.  Along with that, they sweep and blowout the breezeways and trim the bushes and trees. Inside, the fully stocked retail store at StorPlace Self Storage has the cleanest and shiniest floor around.  We take pride in the fact you can see your reflection in the office windows.

In conclusion, we know that price is of the utmost of importance during these difficult economic times.  Let me caution you to not always take the lowest price when it comes to storage.  You may quickly discover that you get what you pay for.  Rather than settle for a lower standard self storage facility, give StorPlace Self Storage a look.  You may rediscover what value truly means.  At StorPlace Self Storage, we take pride in having the safest and cleanest facility in the area.

A Rainy Measure

Rainy Puddles

The Month of March this year ended on a very rainy note. It was the kind of day that you would not expect anyone would be interested in getting a storage unit: unless of course, they were a duck. However, on opening the store, a mother and adult son came in to StorPlace of Bowling Green asking about unit sizes and prices. She had been a tenant many years ago and came back because of the great customer service. This time, the family was moving and needed to store a small house of belongings.I did have a 10×20 standard space available nearby for them to tour, provided they wanted to brave the heavy downpour. They said “Yes, we had better see it.” So, we proceeded out into the rain. They had not really dressed for the weather so we cut through a temperature-controlled building to try to prevent from getting drenched.

After raising the door on the outside unit, both mother and son walked off the space, imagining the storage floor plan. The main issue for them was where the son’s things would be packed. He is a truck driver and would need to remove items first. For convenience, the family had been recently living together. After a discussion with other family members, the decision was made to secure the outside storage unit. Before heading back into the rain and  the puddles, the mother looked up at the unit ceiling and said,”A rainy day is a good day to test if the roof leaks.”  I said that is true, but at Storplace Self Storage, we have never had that problem. To finish the rental process, we headed back to the office to complete the move-in paperwork.

Most people would probably not choose a rainy and cold day to rent a storage unit. They would look out the window and say, “Let’s tour the storage facility tomorrow”.  However, this mother and son duo had a true measure of need. They were going to get a storage unit no matter if it was rain or shine. For the Storplace Self Storage staff member, it is in turn a measure of a different kind: to meet the needs of the tenant with extra customer service. It would be easy to shy away from showing a unit on such a rainy day. But you do so,  with enthusiasm, if you put yourself in the customer’s shoes. No matter how soggy those shoes may be.

At Storplace in Bowling Green, although not perfect, we try to go the extra mile for customers. And would you know it, as I write this, it is yet another rainy day!

New Year: New Changes, Challenges and Happiness

Happy New Year

StorPlace Self Storage of Stones River in Murfreesboro Tennessee, is kindly referred to as “Your Neighborhood” storage facility. Welcome to our neighborhood and Happy New Year everyone!

This year, as the holidays rushed in and out and even now as we take down and box or re-box our decorations to store our precious ornaments and keepsakes for another year, we begin to greet the New Year with the eagerness of a child on Christmas morning. Ringing in a New Year always gives great opportunity to reflect the simple lessons learned from years gone by. We say good-bye to the year passing and the many events that has brought us to today. Kelly, store manager of Stones River, said New Years has always been her favorite holiday. “It is a rebirth and a fresh start. The excitement of the unknown in what this New Year will bring. What new road will life place us on? What challenge, what accomplishment, what heart ache or joy will life’s undetermined mystery bring to the road of life?”

It seems the one thing we can always count on in life, is that from day-to-day, week to week, month to month, and from year to New Year, our life is about to change. No matter who we are or what our individual circumstance and walk of life might be, we know something in our life is about to take a turn and change. Sometimes the change is great and good and exciting, and sometimes; well, the change might be a growing experience, one we’d actually rather not have to stretch our muscles and go through. But, go through we will and hopefully as we do, there will always be people on our life’s road to share with us the joys, tears, sorrows, smiles and lending a shoulder if need be while we stretch and grow and change.

With being in the self storage management position, Kelly can meet all of her customers, new and old.  People who everyday, come in and share their story, of what  life’s road has changed for them. It may be as simple as needing to buy a box or two or it might be that job promotion that they have  been waiting on and now are making room for that home office and storing all the clutter from the junk room. She loves hearing their stories!  In these tough economic times, several people have told Kelly that they are downsizing and storing their home furnishings while they sell their large home and move to a smaller one. Sometimes your storage needs may be due to the delight of a new child on the way and you’re clearing a bedroom for a nursery.  Other times, it is in the sadness of a loved one lost, and you are storing their belongings until you feel you can manage and face going through them.  A new job, a new home, or combining households with new love in the air; there are so many stories and people and circumstances. We can count on change being inevitable in our ever rotating lives! “I love my job!” Kelly said

Sometimes the world can be a cold place when transition hits; so whatever your story, and no matter the road life has put you on, come in and see us at StorPlace of Stones River, Kelly has a shoulder to lend, an ear to listen, an idea to share and a smile to give.  You’re Welcome in StorPlace Self Storage neighborhood anytime!

Storplace Self Storage Annual Company Picnic

StorPlace Self Storage Celebrates It’s Community

Well you know what they say: “All work and no play makes Jack and Jill dull.” In addition to helping you lead a more interesting life, recreation is important because of the many health, social and educational benefits it can provide. Even the word itself – recreation – indicates that something in us is lost through our daily grind that needs to be replenished. We need to be re-created periodically, replenished, built back up after a time of hard work.

If you watch a classroom full of 3rd graders for a day, it should be fairly obvious why recreation is important. By the end of the day, they look like they’re about to jump out of their own skin. The literally need to go outside and run around.

Adults are the same way; we’re just better at hiding it because most of us aren’t allowed an hour each day to play. We are expected to work, take care of our homes and families, and do responsible grown-up things. But if you take the time regularly to relax and enjoy yourself, you already know why recreation is important. Just in case you don’t, however, here are just a few of the benefits of recreation:

Exercise – If you play sports, dance, hike, walk or jog for fun, then you are not only refreshing your mind, but you are also helping your body to stay healthy and strong. Studies have shown that regular exercise can help prevent diseases, control your weight, increase strength, improve stamina, help you sleep better, and just make you feel better in general.

Fun and entertainment – Some people will tell you that watching TV is a waste of time, or that it kills your brain cells, but you know what? Sometimes your brain cells just need a rest, and if it makes you laugh, it’s reducing stress and creating a more positive environment, especially if the laughs are shared with other people.

Relaxation – This is hard for some people, but relaxation is necessary for good health. Our bodies aren’t made to go non-stop all the time. We need sleep to regenerate, but we also need to consciously stop running around sometimes and just sit. Let the house get extra dusty one week, and read a good book instead of cleaning. Take your kids to the park, and let them play with other kids while you sit on a bench and soak up the sun. Lie in bed for 10 minutes after you wake up in the morning, and just listen to the birds outside. Calm your mind, and you’ll lower your blood pressure.

Group participation – Participating in any kind of group activity – a class, theatrical production, community league sport, or PIC NIC – has all kinds of benefits. Group activities help children build their social skills and help adults build their social networks. These social connections can later help the entire community because once people know each other, they are more likely to help each other and work together to make their neighborhoods better places to live.

With all that being said: Here is how Stor Place Self Storage comes together to relax…….Our entire crew with family and friends met at Edwin Warner Park last Saturday to enjoy a full day of fun and relaxation. We even gave out awards…

  • Most competitive: Luke Katras
  • Most flustered: Nadine Misky (poor Nadine almost passed out after the softball game)
  • StorPlace Spirit Award: James Watson (for an all out performance at 1st base; including sacrificing his body for the team)
  • Most Family members in attendance: Ryan Silva & family
  • Injured Reserve List: Judy M, James and Nadine (next year let’s bring a medic)
  • Most in charge award: Jeff Urffer
  • Most ambidextrous award: Dustin

Packing for the Big Move

Come store with us in Bowling Green.

You have decided to move. A thousand things must be running through your mind right now. Where will we go? When will it be? How much is it going to cost? How long will it all take? I may not know the answer to any of those questions but what I do know is you have to start somewhere. Packing. The more organized and diligent you are about packing your things, the easier it will make your move.

When you sit back and think about packing your things, you need to put things into several different categories. The first divisions that need to be made are what things you will move with you, what things you will store and what things you will be getting rid of. This can be one of the hardest decisions that you have to make when you are moving, but given some time and thought it can make your process much easier. You don’t want to get to your new house and have a lot of clutter to go through; so doing it at the beginning stages can save you time and frustration. The next categories you would place things into would be by rooms.  This makes moving to the new place much easier because when you unload the moving truck you take the boxes straight to the room they belong in to wait to be unpacked. Make sure you make a list of what is in each box and number all of your boxes so you can keep track of what you have. No one likes losing things when they are moving, but if you have a reference of what you have and where it should be, you may save yourself some trouble.

The next major step you must take in your moving process is gathering boxes. First, assess how much you have to pack to save yourself from making multiple trips to buy boxes. The good thing about StorPlace Self Storage is that we not only offer services to your storage needs, but we also have a full line of moving and packing supplies. We can be your one stop shop for any and everything moving related. Now, you know you need boxes, but you walk in and there are different sizes. We understand can be a little overwhelming but if you keep these simple suggestions in mind you will be well equipped with the knowledge you need to leave the store with everything you will need. Smaller boxes are good for heavier items such as books and dishes. You do not want to load a larger box down with heavy items because it is harder to move and you risk obtaining an injury. Medium boxes are the perfect size for children’s toys and even some small kitchen appliances. Large boxes are best used for household items such as computer equipment and cookware. Extra Large boxes are perfect for bulky and lightweight items such as linens and pillows. There are even wardrobe boxes to place hanging clothes from closets in. Don’t forget to pick up some newsprint and bubble wrap to protect your most precious collectables from breaking. Now since you have picked out all of your boxes make sure you have enough tape to get them assembled and closed up completely. We also carry a lot of other moving supplies such as quilted blankets, mattress covers and tie down ropes.

So when you are in the first stages of moving, keep all of the tips in mind. And start your packing experience off right by making one stop to get everything you need at StorPlace. Come visit us at Bowling Green StorPlace Self Storage for all of your storage needs. You can find a full list of our moving and packing supplies on
