Tips for Storing Comic Book Collections

StorPlace of Murfreesboro RdComic book collections are a great investment and fun hobby. With the hundreds of comic book based movies that have been hitting the silver screen lately, it’s easy to get attached with the fun and engaging characters. Whether you can relate to the backstory, or you think their super power is really cool, being interested in comic book characters is what will keep you interested in the story as it grows and continues.

Most publishers have massive universes of thousands of characters – so keep your eyes open for the classics if you are beginning to build your collection: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, etc. Maybe a team of characters is more your speed – check out: The X-Men, The Avengers, The Justice League, etc. But for those of you who already have a growing collection–and are running out of storage space around your home–below are some tips for how to store comic books the right way while you continue to add more to the collection.

Comic Book Collection Storage

Equally important to building your collection is protecting your collection. Comic books are generally stored in acid free mylar bags–you can even get them resealable with acid free adhesive. This protects your books from fingerprinting, scuffs, and–with the addition of some acid free tissue paper–moisture as well. A backing board is stored inside the bag, against the back cover of the book, to add rigidity which prevents bending and curling when books are stored together. We also recommend climate controlled storage areas as well to protect the collection from extreme temperatures.

Finally, store your bagged and boarded comic book collection upright in a short or long box–depending on how many books you have–being sure to add foam inserts or large trade paper backs to fill the empty space to prevent your books from leaning too much in a forward or backward direction. Wear cotton or linen gloves when handling or placing your books in storage. Also, don’t store your comic books in a way that the ink on the spine cracks and becomes white, and always store your books, bagged and boarded.

In addition to those comic book storage tips, inspecting your books periodically while in storage is also highly recommended. Treat them like you’re handling historical documents in an archive similar to business document storage, because essentially that’s what you’re doing. Above all else, remember to enjoy your new hobby and continue to purchase new comic books after you have created space by storing your older items. For anyone with large collections in the Kentucky or Tennessee areas, consider StorPlace. Our heated or cooled units would be great for comic book storage, so stop by today to learn more!

Learn Simple Ways To Support Tennessee’s Wildlife

StorPlace of Bowling Green, KYThere are three key elements involved in helping to maintain our beautiful wildlife throughout Tennessee–food, water and shelter. These three necessities of life are simple yet often overlooked when it comes to how we can support the birds and animals that share our Nashville, Tennessee community. Fueled by a personal passion to give back to Mother Nature, we took the following steps at our home recently that anyone can adapt to help Tennessee remain as vibrant as ever.

  1. Bird Baths – By taking shallow plastic trays that can be purchased for as little as one dollar, we are able to help our birds find water they need to stay clean and hydrated. After starting with trays, we now have two concrete baths in our backyard that many birds swoop down to use on a regular basis. If you are looking to do the same, be sure to keep them clean and free from Algae, mosquitos and other unwanted larvae.
  2. Food for the WildlifeWe have a multitude of different kinds of feeders since all birds don’t eat in the same manner. Doves like to eat on the ground, but will eat from a feeder. Cardinals and Chickadees will eat from anything. Titmice like dinner from a feeder, while Gold Finches prefer thistle. When choosing your feeders, have fun! We try to mix our own bird seed with fruit and nut mix. You can also slather peanut butter on the side of a tree, and stick some bird seed to it. Wood Peckers love this little treat, as do other birds and squirrels.
  3. Finally, Shelter – We try to provide a variety of lodging for our furry friends, keeping in mind, we don’t want them on our back porch. Bird houses are usually fine to put close to your house, but we’ve had more success with houses made from natural colors. In our yard, we also witness dear, squirrel, raccoon, possum, a large variety of birds, including a few stray Turkeys, and Chicken. These animals are being forced to live in our world, but few steps can go a long way to help insure their survival.

For all your self-storage needs in Tennessee, consider StorPlace Self-Storage. We take pride in the community we serve, offering the best in self-storage solutions for home, business and everything else in between!

What to Look For When Comparing Storage Facilities

Computerized Gate Access at StorPlace Self Storage

Every StorPlace Self Storage faciliy has computerized gate access.

When searching for a storage facility there are a few key things that you should look for during your search: location, availability, security, competitive pricing, cleanliness, and customer service.

Location is a major factor in choosing a facility.  The facility that is the closest to your home is the one you are more likely to choose.  StorPlace Self Storage has 16 facilities in and around middle Tennessee as well as Bowling Green, KY.  There are many different storage facilities in the area to choose from, but don’t base our choice only on the location.

Availability of storage units is another big factor when it comes to choosing a facility.  Not all storage facilities have the same number and size of units available at a certain time.  Storage unit availability varies from location to location.  A good way to check availability is to call the facility you are thinking about storing at or you can go to the website to check to see if the storage unit size that you need is available. At StorPlace of Hendersonville, you can check availability of certain size storage units on our website.

Security is a feature that all potential customers should focus their attention on.  Most places will have a couple of cameras and a gate. At StorPlace Self Storage, we offer multiple security options.  We have surveillance cameras that record 24 hours a day, a fence that is surrounding the entire facility, gated access, and high security lock for the units.

Pricing is probably the most important thing that people think about when choosing a storage facility.  Competitive pricing is available at just about every storage facility. The thing to look for is the most “bang for your buck”.  This can be done by comparing multiple facilities prices along with any specials or coupons you can find.  Typically, a heated and cooled space is going to cost more money than your standard outdoor garage style units.  This may not be true in all cases though.  Pricing also depends on availability of the units.

The Cleanliness of the storage facility is probably the most important factor for me.  You should always ask for a tour of the property and ask to be shown the unit you are thinking about renting before committing to the rental.  This way you can check out the property for yourself and make sure you are getting a clean unit.  Also, a good question to ask is if the facility has an exterminator that comes and sprays the property for bugs.

Good customer service is important for everyone. At StorPlace Self Storage, we pride ourselves on our great customer service.  We try to help the customer in any way possible.  If you have any additional questions you can call any of our 16 locations to get more information.

Storage professionals, such as the ones at StorPlace Self Storage, can help determine the storage unit which will best serve your needs. Do you require a small or large unit? A drive up unit? A heated and cooled unit? Take the same care when selecting your self-storage unit.

There is no unimportant part of self storage. Start with the necessary packing supplies, such as boxes and tape, for the storing or moving job ahead. Another very important part of storing with self-storage is finding a location that suits you best; a location down the road is better than across town. Lastly, select the right unit for your storage needs, if you don’t know, ask.
