Storage Tips for The Woodworking Hobby Enthusiast

StorPlace Self Storage in Bowling Green KentuckyWood working is one of my favorite hobbies. However, wood is not cheap so I searched for a way to find lumber that people no longer need and just wanted gone. I posted a few adds advertising free haul away and clean up. This was a good and bad way of getting free lumber.

The good side is that I was getting some legit calls for good quality lumber from nearby home remodels and the ever growing construction sites popping up around where I live. The down side to this was it was all scrapes and nothing was really workable without piecing two or more pieces together. Another downside to the construction sites was that I had to haul away all the other stuff that goes with construction sites drywall, roofing and siding. After doing this for a couple of months with not great success I received a call from my mom and she told me that her neighbor Mary Ray came by the house and asked if I could cut a maple tree that had fallen from the storms of the previous week.

Without hesitation I told her I would and would be out there after church on the following Sunday. Mary Ray is one of the kindest ladies I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. After my mom’s divorce Mary ray took care of me and my sisters when my mom worked late at the Hospital. That following Sunday I pulled in the driveway of Mary rays and she met me still all dolled up from church and gave me a big huge. The monster is around back as she laughed I followed her around the house and I had to take a step back when I saw the tree. Mary ray said her and her husband met under the tree and that’s why he built the house where he did. I could tell she was very upset seeing the tree that stood over her for her entire life laying lifeless all over her back yard.

Her Husband James pasted away two years ago and now knowing the Importance of this particular tree. I wanted to do something special for her. The cleanup of this tree was crazy I worked on it from two forty that afternoon till I ran out of sunlight and I only got half of the tree cut. With huge piles of wood. Enough that I wouldn’t have to scavenge the scrapes from construction sites for a couple of years. I just didn’t have anywhere to put it. I looked up some nearby storage facilities and found StorPlace self-storage and purchased a huge outside unit to keep the wood from rotting.

Now with all the wood I need I can concentrate on building Mary Ray a outdoor gazebo she loves gardening and I wanted to give her something that reminds her of James and brings her some comfort knowing that the tree that was huge part of her life is still with her just in a new form.

Happy Fall from all of us at StorPlace Self Storage!

Maintenance is Key To Self-Storage Success

StorPlace of Murfreesboro RdWhen self-storage companies are trying to save money by “holding off” on “minor” maintenance issues, they were really costing themselves and their customers time and money in the long run.

By not addressing minor issues–like a storage unit door sticking–as they arise, self-storage companies can create larger issues eventually like the door eventually breaking or causing a customer an extra 10 minutes to open. That is why one of our missions at StorPlace is to invest in maintenance.

Investing in maintenance is a direct correlation to investing in customer service. When the little things are not pushed off and in fact addressed right away, self-storage owners are helping to maintain a great experience for their customers. They are also saving themselves money by both investing in their property but also keeping customers happy and coming back.

A few dollar problem can turn into a one-hundred-dollar problem if it is not addressed. Even worse, it could lead to a bad customer experience that could have been avoided with a 20-minute repair. If the problem was held off and the door and the track kept getting damaged from an object, for example, then that would cause the company to pay to fix the track and/or door. On top of that it would cause the company to lose money because the unit would not be rentable under construction.

So, when a unit is not rentable and costing money in damages and repairs, money is being lost and customers are forced to go elsewhere. At StorPlace, we have learned from our experience that investing in the little things nets big results. A customer might not necessarily notice when everything is working properly, but they will notice when it takes extra time to access their storage unit for whatever reason. Get out in front and invest in maintenance if you’re a self-storage owner, you will get that back down the road.

Pokemon Go: What Your Business Needs To Know

Find the right storage unit size for your needs at StorPlace Self StoragePokémon Go is sweeping the nation. But can businesses capitalize on this growing phenomenon? The answer is yes, but you need to take the proper steps in order maximize its potential. Here are a few ways that Pokemon Go can impact your business:

Increased foot traffic in or around your business

More potential customers with people discovering you for the first time could result from Pokemon Go players. If you can accommodate that traffic in some way, you could get people to stay for a little while and invest in your services. Now this only really helps if you are a PokéStop.

What is a PokéStop?

A PokeStop is a place where a Pokemon Go player can go to get additional items for the game itself. It can also hold a PokéLure. This is a lure that attracts Pokémon to this particular location for 30 minutes. A PokeLure could be particularly helpful if you are a restaurant or a shopping center. What better way to get customer’s into your business than to attract them directly through the door!

What if you’re not a PokeStop but want to be?

If your business one of these types of business, but you are not a PokéStop, in the near future you will be able to request to be one. Keep that in mind when you are thinking of ways to bring in new customers and keep your eye on releases or reports about how a business can apply to be a PokeStop in the future.

What type of business would not necessarily benefit from Pokemon Go?

On the other hand, there are some types of commercial businesses that would not benefit from having their business be a PokéStop. The main concern for me when it comes to businesses being PokéStops is security. If you consider yourself to be a secure facility, such as a storage facility like StorPlace Self-Storage, it might not in your best interest to be a PokéStop. This is due to the potential unwanted after-hours foot traffic, and possible trespassing. Also, places like cemeteries, factories, or businesses near large intersections might not want to be a PokéStop, either.

Safety first!

In either case it is on the player to understand when and where to play the game. Be respectful please! Who knows how long the Pokémon craze will go on for, but in the meantime, gotta catch ‘em all!

Springtime Storage Ideas

StorPlace of Bowling Green, KYSpring has officially arrived! After months of cold and gloom, springtime offers many reasons for excitement.

For college students, final exams are within sight and the school year is nearly complete. Spring also serves as a reminder to students that it’s now time to clean out their dorms before heading home for the summer. For some students, packing up your belongings and driving them to your parents’ house may be difficult. With many StorPlace facilities around Nashville offering month to month terms, students can store dorm room essentials and valuable items for just the summer as more efficient alternative.

For others, this is also a time of year when we shift our focus to spring cleaning projects. This is a chance to store away extra boxes and furniture that might be cluttering your house and garage. It’s also a time to store away winter items like sleds, shovels, heaters, and extra bedding. If you have small closets, you can even store away your sweaters, coats, and other winter clothing items!

With better weather comes outdoor adventures. Dust off your boat or jet ski and head out to the lake! Our facilities can be accessed seven days a week between the hours of 6am to 10pm so you can spend the whole day enjoying water and sunshine.

Whatever way you choose, let StorPlace give you a “fresh” start to make sure you get outside and enjoy the sunshine throughout the spring and summer months!

What I’ve Learned About Basset Hounds

Basset HoundsIn March 2015, Beau came into our lives and home. Beau was born in January 2015, so he was approximately 10 weeks old, weighing in it at a roaring 5 pounds when he came home with us. At first we were convinced we were going to have to build ramps to all the entrances of our home. He couldn’t get up or down any of the stairs. The good news, he’s outgrown that problem. With very short legs and a little round torso, most of the time when he walked, he stepped on his ears.

We very quickly learned, the basset rules of possession. If he likes it, its his. If he chews it into hundreds of little pieces, all the pieces are his. If he gets tired of it, it’s yours. If he wants it back, its his. And he really doesn’t forget these rules. He remembers.

Basset hounds apparently grow very quickly. After a very short period, he had gone from the adorable 5 pound pup my husband brought home, to a 60 pound log dog. His torso is very large, and round. Legs are still short, but he is able to walk up and down the stairs now. And somehow he has grown significantly, but his ears have not. Fortunately he doesn’t step on them anymore.

Basset’s love to play.  He has no problem stealing your stuff then luring you into playing keep away. He has a large collection of toys. He will gladly toss one up in your lap; he’s not shy about letting you know its Beau’s play time.
